Greetings from Union Hospital! I hope since summers’ end is quickly
approaching that you all found time to enjoy the beautiful weather, travel, family and
friends.

It’s hard to believe that my first six months as President has
passed. It has been eventful! Please take time to check out the rest of this website, as I
have been making efforts to keep the membership appraised of current events. I encourage
you to e-mail Kurt Meyer information you would like to have posted on the webpage.

I had the opportunity to represent ISHHRA at the ASHHRA Annual
Meeting in Chicago. The experience was worthwhile and enjoyable. the opportunities were
endless…I met many wonderful people and developed relationships that will be rewarding
for our organiszation.

The highlight of the conference was the presentation of the Paul Guy
Mentorship Award during opening ceremonies. The award was established to recognize members
ofASHHRA who exemplify the qualities of mentorship as  demonstrated by Paul. The
winners were:

Laura Avakian, VP HR, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Thomas
Bosica, VP HR, Northeast Health, Daniel Gilbert VP HR Parkridge Health System, Norman
Metzger, Professor, Adams, Nash & Haskell, and Thom Rossi, Director, HR from Riddle
Memorial Hospital. Congratulations to these folks, and many thanks go to ASHHRA for
establishing this award for Paul.

I have been invite to represent ISHHRA at the Nursing Workforce
Summit on Sept 17 in Indy. The purpose of the summit is to initiate a systematic planning
approach to address the demand for registered nurses. I’ll keep you updated on the
progress of the committee and initiatives to address this critical issue facing
healthcare.

And, last but not least, THE ISHHRA Fall Conference format is
somewhat of a different approach. We have been entertaining the idea of a "host
hospital" for many months. It has now become a reality. On 10/26, St Francis
Hospital, Beech Grove will be the site of the workshop. You have been sent a registration
so check for a fax. Our thought was to rotate the fall conference to afford emebers the
opportunity to visit various hospitals around the state. If you wish to host the next fall
conf, please give us a call. John Klein has a great set of sessions planned, including
Steve Lyman from Hall/Render, Killian, Heath and Lyman and Kevin Sheridan from HR
Solutions. Look forward to seeing you in October!
