Amy Bean receives scholarship to the 2008 Fall ASHHRA Conference!
Fellow ISHHRA Member Amy Bean was one of the lucky recipients of the MetLife ASHHRA Scholarship for the recent conference, which was held in Austin, Texas. If you have never had the opportunity to attend an ASHHRA conference, please see Amy’s note below. Thanks to Amy for her willingness to share this with the ISHHRA members!

ISHHRA Advocacy Task Force |

As you no doubt are aware, we could be facing one of the most challenging periods in quit a few years related to new laws and legislative actions that will impact hospitals. It will be up to us as experts in the HR field to keep our legislative representatives informed of how proposed laws will affect our work place. ISHHRA members have long been active in providing this important voice. However, in the next few years it will be more important than ever for our membership to quickly mobilize its actions when legislation is being proposed.
The ISHHRA Board of Directors, at its October 2008 meeting, established an Advocacy Task Force. The Advocacy Task Force is charged with recommending processes for education and grass roots response to current and future legislation that may impact the Hospital work environment. I am requesting the assistance of several ISHHRA members to assistance in serving on this Task Force. Most Task Force meetings/ communication can be done via conference calls or e-mails. Does your organization have a Best Practice? Our annual meeting is the time to share your successes. Presentations from our members provide an opportunity to learn about HR practices that have been effective in other organizations. During last year's conference, attendees gained many new ideas about hiring and orientation practices from Bruce Wade who shared an Onboarding Process that has improved new hire retention at Bloomington Hospital. Please let Karen Sagar know if you would like to participate in the March Conference -
